CHICAGO (WLS) – Chicago’s Gold Coast won’t be the next area to have a marijuana dispensary.
Brian Hopkins, councilor for the second ward, said that after nearly 12 hours of testimony and counseling, the zoning board of appeal voted to reject the special-purpose zoning request.
In a published statement to the community, Hopkins said in part, “For the hundreds of residents who have taken action to oppose this special-purpose application, this is your victory as it would not have been possible without your endorsement, as a protesting witness who called or emailed my office or the ZBA, attended a rally, public event, or anything else to support Stop Pot on Maple’s efforts. I am proud of your hard work. “
Hopkins said the proposed location on Maple Street is not an appropriate location for a large volume pharmacy.
