Trulieve Cannabis Corp. opens its 75th Florida pharmacy on February 27, marking the first in Tamarac and the third in Broward County, expanding patient access to high quality medical cannabis products.
The Tamarac Pharmacy at 5900 Rock Island Rd supports Trulieve’s goal of providing direct and reliable access to medical cannabis in Florida’s home state, and joins nearby locations in Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, and several more in the nearby counties of Miami- Dade and Palm Beach.
Opening a medical pharmacy in Tamarac would not have been possible a few years ago.
Although this was largely accepted by 71 percent of Florida voters in 2016. In 2018, the former mayor of Tamarac, Harry Dressler, and the city commission unanimously agreed passed a ban about medical marijuana dispensaries in Tamarac.
Dressler was vehemently against pharmacies, called it a gigantic fraud and was factual misinformed about the differences between CBD and THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
After Mayor Michelle Gomez was elected in 2019, former City Commissioner Julie Fishman took over to investigate further.
“The fastest growing population using medical marijuana is people 65 and over. I took the time to read up on this topic by taking a tour of the facilities from grow to drop off and was impressed with the professionalism I saw, ”she said.
The city conducted a citizen poll asking residents if they approved of medical marijuana dispensaries. A whopping one 89.3 percent of those who responded were in favor of admitting them to Tamarac.
In 2020, Fluent opened a medical marijuana dispensary in the town of Coral Springs.

There are nearly 2,700 registered ordering physicians in the state of Florida to support the state’s rapidly growing patient base.
